The lights dimmed as we entered the gallery and we were surrounded by thousands of the most exquisite museum quality crystals in the world and we were immediately moved. “This project has been 100,000 years in the making,” Matthew whispered softly as we examined each piece, overwhelmed by their beauty. As each crystal was forged in the earth and hidden for countless years, we not only wanted but needed to give them a voice in the world, since so few people will have the opportunity to visit this astounding private gallery.
We soon realized that each crystal would demand nothing less than our best efforts. This was not simply a matter of placing the crystal on a set and rotating them through. Each crystal, even those of the same make and general size, required custom tailored lighting, carding, exposures, focus stacking, decisions regarding the most flattering set design, and often required the use of a forklift!
The largest crystal, a most breathtaking cluster that we cannot begin to describe adequately with words, was over two tons and required ten lights and countless other accommodations. (Please out the final shot in the books when it is released!)
